How to self-exclude from Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood and other prediction markets

By Charlie G, a compulsive gambler in recovery. Facts checked October 19, 2026 against the official pages linked below. Not medical, legal or financial advice.

Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood and a handful of newer apps let you buy contracts on who wins tonight's game. They call it trading. If you're chasing losses, hiding it, or can't stop checking prices, it's doing the same damage a sportsbook does, so lock it out the same way. Your state's self-exclusion list probably won't do it for you, so this page goes app by app.

The short version

  • Close what you can first. Kalshi won't let you sell open positions during an exclusion, and Robinhood and Coinbase want positions closed before they shut access off.
  • Exclude inside every app you've used. Take the longest option each one offers. Polymarket US offers a permanent exclusion. Take it.
  • Add SelfExclude.io. One sign-up covers Kalshi and Novig today, with more apps being connected. Its longest term is 1 year, so put the renewal date in your calendar.
  • Kalshi's ban doesn't reach brokers. Robinhood, Coinbase and other apps that sell Kalshi contracts each need their own exclusion.
  • Then block the apps on your phone and remove saved cards and bank links.

Before you start

Kalshi

  1. Open Responsible Risk Management

In the app: tap the menu icon, go to Settings or Account Options, then Responsible Risk Management. On the web: open the sidebar menu at the top left and scroll to Responsible Risk Management.

  2. Choose self-exclusion

Pick self-exclusion, not a trading break. A break is short. Kalshi doesn't list its term lengths on its help page, so choose the longest one the app shows you.

  3. Confirm

Kalshi says the exclusion covers its website, app and API. Any position you still hold stays open until it settles.

The catch

Kalshi's own help page says its self-exclusion doesn't stop you trading Kalshi contracts through a futures broker. Robinhood and Coinbase both offer Kalshi markets. Exclude from them too (below).

SelfExclude.io (covers several apps at once)

SelfExclude.io is a shared exclusion list for US prediction markets. You sign up once, and every connected app checks your status.

  1. Create an account

Start at selfexclude.io with your email.

  2. Verify your identity

You'll need your legal name, address, date of birth, phone number and a government ID. Verification is done by Veriff.

  3. Pick 1 year

The options are 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Take 12. The site says partner apps apply the block within 24 hours, and you can't shorten it once it's set.

  4. Set your renewal reminder

The exclusion ends on its own when the term runs out. Put a reminder in your phone for a week before that date and re-enroll. A one-year limit is the site's rule, but nothing stops you renewing every year.

Who's connected (as of October 2026): Kalshi and Novig are fully connected. SelfExclude.io lists Polymarket, Robinhood, ProphetX, Matchbook and Juice Exchange as in progress, so exclude in those apps directly for now.

Robinhood

Robinhood has an in-app switch that hides sports prediction markets. Robinhood's own help page says you can still trade sports contracts with that setting changed, so it isn't a block. Self-exclusion goes through support.

  1. Close your event contract positions

Robinhood needs them closed before your event contract account can be fully turned off.

  2. Contact support in the app

Ask for self-exclusion from all event contract trading. Say those words. Robinhood reviews the request, then removes prediction markets from your account after a short wait.

  3. Get it in writing

Keep the confirmation message. To turn event contracts back on, you'd have to contact support and go through a review, which gives you time to call someone first.

  4. Turn off the alerts

Account, then Notifications, then Event contracts. Switch them all off.

Coinbase

Coinbase's help page shows a switch to turn Predictions off: menu, Account & Settings, Predictions, then switch it off and tap Shut off. You can switch it back on just as easily, so don't stop there.

DraftKings Predictions, FanDuel and other sportsbook-run apps

DraftKings Predictions is its own app, separate from the DraftKings Sportsbook. DraftKings says it offers self-exclusion, cool-offs and deposit limits through its Responsible Trading Center inside the app. Your DraftKings Sportsbook exclusion is a separate thing, so do this one too.

FanDuel and other big sportsbook brands have launched their own prediction apps as well. Open each app's responsible trading or account menu, find self-exclusion, and pick the longest term. If you can't find it, ask support for self-exclusion by name and get the answer in writing.

Does my state's self-exclusion cover these apps?

Probably not. These apps are regulated by a federal agency, the CFTC, as financial contracts. State self-exclusion lists are run under state gambling law and cover state-licensed sportsbooks, casinos and lotteries. Don't count on your state list to reach a prediction market app.

Do both. Enroll in your state's program, at lifetime if it's offered, and exclude inside every prediction app. Find your state's program on your state page.

Then lock the doors

These tools buy you time. I'm still the last line of defense between me and the next bet, and you are for yours. Use the time they give you to build the rest: people you're honest with, a meeting, a plan for the hard nights.

Common questions

Does Kalshi self-exclusion stop me trading on Robinhood?

No. Kalshi says its self-exclusion doesn't limit access to Kalshi products through a futures broker, and Robinhood and Coinbase are brokers that offer Kalshi markets. Ask each one for self-exclusion too.

Can I undo a prediction market self-exclusion?

It depends on the app, and you shouldn't want to. SelfExclude.io says its terms can't be shortened. Robinhood requires a support review to turn event contracts back on. Pick the longest option everywhere, and permanent where it's offered.

What happens to my open positions?

Kalshi says you can't sell them during an exclusion, so they stay until they settle. Fanatics Markets says it closes them and returns your funds. Robinhood and Coinbase want them closed first. Close what you can before you start.

Is trading on prediction markets gambling?

Legally they're regulated as financial contracts. If you're losing money you can't afford, hiding it, or can't stop, treat it the way you'd treat any gambling problem. Call or text 1-800-GAMBLER for free, confidential help, 24/7.

What if an app has no self-exclusion button?

Contact support, ask for self-exclusion or a permanent account restriction by name, and ask for the answer in writing. Then delete the app, block it on your phone, and remove your saved payment methods.
