How to delete your DraftKings account permanently
Lots of people search for how to delete DraftKings when what they really want is for it to never let them back in. A plain closure doesn't do that. DraftKings' own help page talks about how to reactivate a closed account. Here's the order that actually shuts the door.
The short version
- Self-exclude first. That's the lock. Closing is just a door you can open again. How to self-exclude from DraftKings.
- Withdraw your money. Once closed, you can't log in.
- Close it: profile photo, Login & Security, Close Account, fill in the form, re-enter your password.
- Make it permanent: after closing, contact DraftKings Customer Support and ask for permanent closure.
Step 1: Self-exclude before you close
DraftKings says you can close your account any time, and links to a page on reactivating it. That's the problem. On a bad night, an account you can reopen is an account you'll reopen. Self-exclusion can't be shortened once it's set. Do it first, at 5 years, and enroll in your state's program at lifetime if it's offered.
There's no room for gambling in our lives going forward. Even after a few years of cooling off, the addiction comes back and we end up gambling the same way again. We never get back to doing it just for fun. We always take it too far.
